Buyer's guide
Is a sit-down longarm right for you?
Choose a sit-down if…
- Your studio is short on space. A sit-down fits in about 6 feet.
- You love free-motion, ruler work, and custom quilting.
- You prefer guiding the quilt with your hands, like your home machine (only so much roomier).
- You mostly make wall hangings, baby quilts, and throws.
Consider a frame machine if…
- You want to finish queen and king quilts without wrestling bulk.
- You'd like edge-to-edge pantographs or computerized quilting someday.
- You're planning to quilt for customers.
- You have 8 to 15 feet of room (or more) to spare.

Longarm Machine FAQs
A sit-down machine needs about 6 feet by 38 inches with its table, or about 6 by 6¼ feet with the optional extensions.
Plan for about 10–17 feet of length and 8 feet of depth for most frame systems. That covers the frame plus room to walk around it.
Short on space? Smaller frames and sit-down models like the Moxie ST and Amara ST fit where a full frame won’t. Not sure what you’ve got? Send me your room measurements and I’ll tell you exactly what fits.
It depends on what you quilt and how often. The Moxie family is a fantastic, approachable start. The Amara gives you more throat space and room to grow, and the Infinity 28 is the flagship for serious quilters and longarm businesses. The best way to decide is a Virtual Coffee Date. I’ll ask a few questions and point you to the machine that fits, not the most expensive one.
Your machine and frame, delivery planning, installation, and hands-on training are all part of your package. You also get a real person to call when you have questions after the sale. Pro-Stitcher, extra accessories, and upgrades can be added when we build your package.
Yes! Within SC, I deliver and install in person. Anywhere else in the US, your machine can be drop shipped to your door and I’ll fly in to install and train you (travel costs quoted with your package). Prefer to set it up yourself? I’ll walk you through it and provide you with virtual training.
Absolutely, and it’s one of the best perks of buying from StitchWell. Your training is built right into your package, so there’s nothing extra to pay. We’ll cover loading a quilt on the frame, winding bobbins, threading, tension, and what every button on your screen does, until you feel confident quilting on your own. In-person buyers train with me during installation, and self-installers get one-on-one virtual sessions. And when new questions pop up down the road, you’ve got me on speed dial.
Pro-Stitcher works with Handi Quilter’s frame machines, not sit-downs. If computerized quilting is on your wish list, ask me about starting on a sit-down and trading up to a frame machine later.
Quilting for yourself? Personal financing with promotional options is available, subject to credit approval. Starting or growing a longarm business? I also offer business equipment financing through Synergy and Red Thread. Mention financing in your quote request and I’ll help you find the right fit.
Handi Quilter longarms come with a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty, plus long-term coverage on parts: 10 years on the casting and 5 years on electronics. HQ recommends a service every 2 years or 10 million stitches, whichever comes first. That’s where I come in: maintenance and repairs are handled right here in my studio (or in your studio).
Yes! Book a studio visit and take my Infinity 28 for a spin.
Typical lead time: 3-4 weeks from order to delivery, depending on HQ availability. I’ll give you a firm timeline when we finalize your package.
