Basics & Process

The largest width I can accept is 100” quilt tops - in other words, most bed size quilts. As far as the smallest, we can quilt your table runners and baby quilts. Due to the time spent/labor of receiving, loading, and shipping, there is a $50 minimum order (excluding batting).

Of course! We’ve all been new at quilting at some point. StitchWell Quilt Co was founded on the concept of empowering quilters of all skill levels and helping each other grow. Once we receive your quilt, we’ll measure and inspect it. If we're unsure about anything we’ll let you know immediately via phone or email. If you’re interested in tips for growth, we're more than happy to share tips to improve upon for your next quilt. It’s our goal to help you have the best quilts possible.

The short answer - yes.

Firstly, always use the highest quality fabric your budget can afford. We LOVE a great sale, but we also know it’s best to invest in high-quality fabric for my quilts. The 60% off coupon to the big box craft store is soo enticing - but instead of fabric, I’ll buy storage items, basic notions, or reputable threads. Check out sale and clearance sections at your local quilt shop or favorite online quilt stores.

Secondly, as modern quilters, we love to push the boundaries and try alternate materials. When you’re sending in your quilt, disclose any alternate fabrics used (IE, flannel, rayon, linen, terrycloth, etc) and we’ll pay special attention when your quilt is received. we’ll be very upfront if it is a textile we haven’t quilted before, but we're always up for a challenge and if you’re game. If you’re one of our quilty rule-breakers, let’s schedule a video call to discuss possibilities prior to shipment.

Lastly, it is your quilt! StitchWell Quilt Co is your quilting ally. We’ll give you our best opinion and advice, but we ultimately want to bring your concept to life!

Sure! We have an extensive library of patterns, but there are more digital E2E patterns available online than there are colors of nail polish! If you find something you loved on Instagram or Pinterest, send us a link and we’ll look for it or something similar. If you find a pattern from one of the below sources you’d like to use, we're more than happy to split the cost with you.

If you have a preferred directionality for your quilt top and back, please put a safety pin near the center of the top edges of your back and top. This way we can ensure they are loaded onto the frame in your desired direction. But don’t worry, we’ll send you photos if we have any questions.

Yes! A pieced back can be a great way to use up scraps and leftover fabrics. Unlike when quilting on a sit-down machine, we can only try to align the vertical center of the quilt top and back. Due to the loading process, we’ll center the top of the backing and quilt top but cannot guarantee the top to be centered between the top and bottom of the backing. Since your backing must have an additional 4” on all sides of your quilt, it is best not to put any special blocks or labels along the edges of your backings. We also prefer to load the quilt backing with the fabric selvage at the top and the bottom. This provides a more structurally sound backing during the quilting process. For this reason, horizontal seams are preferred, but vertical seams will work as well. For best results, please press your all seams open on your backing and trim off selvedges for a smoother look.

While we love a great pieced back, some of my favorite quilt backs aren't pieced at all! Extra-wide 108” fabrics are wonderful for quilts under 100” - no piecing required.

Even better - you can now purchase wide backs directly through StitchWell! We carry a growing selection of 108” backing fabrics, and we're always building up our inventory. If you don't see the exact color or print you're dreaming of, just ask - we're more than happy to special order the perfect wideback for your project!

Of course, if you’ve already purchased your backing elsewhere, you're still very welcome to ship it directly to me (just send over the tracking info when it ships). However we can help save you time and shipping costs - we're in! If you're backing will need to be pieced, check our longarm optional services for pricing.

Pricing & Details

The following services are included in the square inch price:

  • 30-minute consultation (by video, phone, or in-person) to select a design, thread, and batting. Each additional 30 minutes is $25. But don’t worry - I’m sure we can figure it out in 30 minutes!
  • Time to load the longarm frame and square up your backing, batting, and top as much as possible.
  • Bobbin changes. We will not charge you for each bobbin change.
  • Time spent stitching the quilt, knotting and burying threads as needed.
  • Regular photo updates via email or text.

The following items are in addition to the square inch price (see our Optional Services for pricing):

  • Consultation beyond the initial 30 minutes (see above).
  • One thread color is standard at $8/quilt. Each additional thread color is $5 each.
  • Batting (dependent upon quilt size and batting type selected).
  • Trimming your quilt.
  • Finishing services - aka Binding.
  • Return shipping (This is generally around $14-$20 and includes $50 insurance)
  • Sales Tax (I knoooooow. I’m sorry! Uncle Sam needs his share too and I prefer to be on the IRS’s good side!)

It's not as scary as it sounds!

Let’s say your quilt top is 50” wide x 65” long. Multiply these numbers to get the square inches.

  • 50" x 60" = 3,250 sq inches

Now multiple the square inches by the square inch rate of your desired pattern/density. We’ll say it’s $0.03 for this example.

  • 3,250 x .030 = $97.50. Whoa - definitely worth it to finish those quilts before Christmas!

Oh, that ginormous quilt you’ve been working on for your bed the last two years? (I’ve put that mega quilt through my tiny DSM - never again, thank you very much!)

  • 100” x 100” = 10,000
  • 10,000 x 0.03 = $300 - Let’s get it finished and into use!

We hope not! It is my goal to be as transparent with you about costs as possible.

After we establish a cost per square inch, we just need to add thread and batting. Batting will be dependent upon the size of your quilt (plus 4” on ALL sides), and one thread color is standard at $8/quilt. Each additional color change beyond this is $5 each.

If there are any surprises (like holes in your quilt that need mending or excessive pet hair that needs to be removed upon receipt), we will let you know as soon as possible. we want you to have the best quilt possible so we’ll let you know about any concerns or surprises we find along the way - as soon as we find them.

Trimming is an optional service. As a standard, we will only be trimming off the excess batting and backing and square the corners only - this is not to be confused with squaring up your quilt. We’d prefer to let you chose how much to trim off when squaring up, though we're totally ok taking this on - upon request only. If you purchase optional binding services, we will square the corners prior to binding unless requested otherwise.

Usable batting and backing fabric larger than 2.5" will be returned with your quilt.

Don't worry - we totally understand! Here's how payments break down:

  • To place your order, fill out the form and purchase your batting for local pick up (remember it needs to have an additional 4" on EACH side). Consider this your deposit and holding your place in line.
  • Next, you'll need to pay for shipping to us and ship the quilt top and backing to the address provided.
  • Once your quilt top/backing have arrived at the studio and we've processed your order form, you will receive an estimate of costs.
  • After you return a signed copy of the estimate (email please!), the quilting can begin!
  • Finally, your quilting is completed! We'll package your quilt up, establish shipping costs to include on your final invoice, and send you the final balance for payment. Once paid, your quilt will be shipped out the next business day!

Our Studio

StitchWell Quilt Co is located in Columbia, SC (in the lower-floor of my home). It is a smoke-free, cat-free, child-free home. We do have a greyhound and silken windhound that own our beds and are the co-CCOs (chief cuddling officers) of my personal quilts. As an allergy-suffering household, I want to be very upfront about having a dog in the home. Please let me know if you have any questions.

We have a Handi Quilter Infinity 28 on a 10' Gallery 3 Frame with Pro Stitcher. She, Loretta the Longarm, is a computerized machine with a digital stitch regulator (this means every stitch will be perfectly precise).

There is a dedicated tablet connected to the front of my longarm that automates the majority of the stitching on your quilt. We use the machine and computer to design the quilting pattern, scale, and placement to best compliment your quilt. Once the design has been established, it's time to get stitching! This is when the computer connects to the motor and takes over the sew head to stitch your quilt. Don't worry, we're there with your quilt the whole time to ensure the best results possible.

Currently, I’m not only the Founder but the Go-to-Gal for all things StitchWell Quilt Co. I’ll be handling your quilt from check-in to departure. If you have any questions along the way - I’m just a call away.

Shipping & Delivery

Yay - We're so excited too! StitchWell Quilt Co is based out of my home in Columbia, SC, USA. We will gladly accept quilts by mail from across the country. Please provide tracking information via email so we can carefully monitor all shipments and ensure there is someone available to receive your quilt top and backing.
Please inquire about options to ship extra-wide backing fabrics directly to the studio from online sources.

We have a few steps we recommend here.

  1. Place safety pins at the top of your backing and top if there is a specific way you want us to load it on the frame (IE a directional print that you want facing up). If you are sending multiple quilts, please note which backings belong to which top.
  2. Include a paper with your name, phone number, and email.
  3. Send your materials enclosed in a plastic bag to protect against any possible moisture during transit or in case the box gets damaged. Place this sealed plastic bag inside a strong cardboard box and tape securely shut.
  4. Lastly, clearly label the box and it's ready to go!

Your quilt is finished - woohoo! We can't wait for you to receive it. We will carefully package it up as we described in the question above and return it to you via USPS Priority Mail. We'll ship using the most economical rate available through Priority Mail with the $50 included insurance through USPS.

We will include the exact shipping costs on your final invoice. All invoices must be paid prior to shipment. If you would prefer an alternate shipping service (FedEx or UPS), this can be arranged for an additional charge. Faster delivery and/or additional insurance are also available upon request during intake.

Once your quilt is prepared for its journey back to you, we will provide you with the tracking number so you can monitor its progress.

Howdy, Neighbor!

StitchWell Quilt Co has two local drop-off windows each week, Wednesdays from 7-9 pm and Saturdays from 12-4 pm. These times are subject to change and will be updated on this website. Please schedule a time in advance for your quilt intake and to receive the address. This is to ensure availability to consult with you during this time.
